Westward Expansion

During the fifteen years between the mid-1830s and 1850 the United States saw a dramatic expansion in its territory to the point where, by the time this period had ended, it was a nation whose geographic borders included both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This lesson tells the story of how, through diplomatic agreement and military conflict, that territorial expansion took place.
