The Missouri Compromise and the Monroe Doctrine

This lesson examines the burst of cultural nationalism that followed the War of 1812 and continues of the story of America’s geographic/territorial expansion by highlighting the escalating tension between the desire to add states to the nation on one hand and the ultimately irreconcilable differences over the status of slavery in those states on the other.
